Head and Neck Cancer Screening
Head and Neck cancer is unfortunately more common than you would think and often diagnosed in advanced stages. Regular screening by an otorhinolaryngologist should be part of the standard cancer screening protocols.
The Examination includes:
-
A detailed consultation to discuss your symptoms, medical history, and any concerns you may have.
-
The skin of the face is examined for any visible lesions, discoloration, or dermatological concerns, and a dermatoscope may be used to observe deeper skin structures in detail.
-
A gentle internal examination of the nasal passages is performed using a rhinoscope to identify signs of congestion, inflammation, structural issues, or other nasal pathologies.
-
The oral cavity, tongue, tonsils, and throat are carefully assessed for signs of infection, swelling, lesions, or abnormalities affecting the upper airway or digestive tract.
-
A thin, flexible endoscope is used to visualize the larynx and vocal cords, helping to detect inflammation, vocal strain, nodules, or other functional or structural issues affecting the voice.
-
The lymph nodes are gently palpated to check for swelling, tenderness, or unusual texture, and ultrasound may be used to further evaluate their size, shape, and internal structure.
